Project Background

My best friend died last year. He was an atheist. I visited his grave a few months ago and on the way back wondered what if he died and realized it was not over? The idea for a game emerged.

The protagonist is non-religious. In early life he made a pact with the Devil, the details of which he was made to forget, and which will be revealed in Chapter 13. Flashbacks of his life and death may appear in-game at appropriate times.

Started work on the game a day ago. Thought about different perspectives, but have gone with first-person. The first major area is the plane of lost souls where the game starts, after the introductory Chapter 1.

There are other lost/cursed souls here, who you may recruit or absorb to get more soul-strength.  Recruited souls may be merged to keep the number to a reasonable limit. Merging them adds to their soul-strength.

The plane of lost souls has all these guys who made pacts with the Devil :)

Once you have gained some soul-strength and/or companions, your adventures will lead to the burning bush where you'll receive items and guidance from the first in a series of mentors who will be found near/after each level end.

The path to the hidden (but well guarded) entrance to the 9th level of hell is inspired by the stairs of Cirith Ungol, and Shelob's lair :)

Looking forward to the nine levels of hell, where I can put in all the characters I want, much as Dante did :) All major characters from the Divine Comedy should make an appearance.

You'll meet the Devil finally at the gates of hell. This is when the (shocking) details of the pact will be revealed (final flashback), and you will have to make the decision leading to one of two entirely different final encounters.
